Santos Expelled
The short, bizarre congressional career of George Santos has come to its predictable, ignominious end. He should be proud -- he's made history! -- only one of six members of congress in 234 years to be ousted prematurely from the US House.
We should all be so memborable.
Earlier this week, outside Santos' district office in Queens, news crews lined up outside on multiple days, waiting for this moment.
I don't know what kind of news they thought they'd find there but, down in DC, news -- and history -- was most assuredly made:
Santos is now doomed to become a curiosity of history, a weird factoid and abberation of our times.
He'll probably go to jail but get out relatively soon, wind up working in right-wing media, spend the rest of his miserable life claiming that he was the target of a dark, vast, nefarious Deep State/Uniparty/Swamp/Establishment -- pick your favorite GOP buzzword -- conspiracy that directly targeted a gay, "Jew-ish" dark skinned immigrant Republican and his deep conservative values. He'll basically be a lifelong professional victim -- and not just the sleazy conman who lied about everything to everybody, broke the law, got caught and rightfully paid the price.

Santos Drama Redux
The world's fastest, strongest, smartest, and most beautiful man, New York Congressman George Santos, has been indicted on THIRTEEN federal counts of wire fraud, money laundering, embezzlement and other stuff.
He's a one man Republican crime machine. And those are just the federal charges -- he's still being investigated on the state and county level. He's going to be "going through some things" -- and maybe several years in prison.
Of course he claims that this is all a "witch hunt", that there's a grand conspiracy to take a good, decent, honest, hardworking man of the people down. And he won't resign until, presumably, he's either convicted of a crime or takes a plea deal.
It'll be interesting to see how this plays out -- and hopefully we'll never have to see or hear anything about this sleaze ever again.

The (Not So) Talented Congressman-elect Mr. Santos
"If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere."
And if you have no education, no professional credentials, are a wanted criminal, and, basically, are totally unemployable and have have nothing going on in life, you can still make it big in NYC by becoming ... a Republican member of the United States Congress!

Power of the People
If you want to understand, I mean really see and feel the consequences of living in a democratic country with a free press, then look no further than the intersection of Northern Boulevard and Douglaston Parkway in Queens.
Here stands what used to be the Congressional office of indicted felon/huckster/serial liar George Santos.
This blog has chronicled the bizarre rise and fall of this Only-in-America political conman. And during his truncated term in office, this is what his district office looked like:
But thanks to his being exposed as the fraud that he is by the press, thanks to the citizen activism that got him expelled from Congress, and thanks to the voters who replaced him with a real public servant, Tom Suozzi, this is what the office looks like now:
We did that. We the public, the ordinary citizen of this great city and country, exersied our power and literally got him out of office. Now this same place is being prepared for a real Congressman.
It's easy to be cynical about politics and government, and many of us are for good reason, but when you see this, when you see a mistake literally being corrected in front of you in real time, powered by the people, you can't help but be grateful to live in this great, free, amazing country.
